Bento First Impressions
Bento First Impressions
I downloaded the preview and played with it a bit. At the request of some fellow Filemaker nuts, here’s what we’ve got:
Here are some Bento screenshots and movies
Here’s the first thing you’ll see, the Bento home screen. This first pops up with a Wizard asking you what you would like to create, or if you’d like to watch a movie about Bento.
Watch the intro movie buried in the installer:
It then moves on to Themes...
Adding fields is very interesting. Fields are now seen as “modules” by which you can add data to. Look closer at the image above for the field names on the right.
Here’s the create a field dialog:
And my newly created field as it shows up on the right hand Fields pane:
I can then click on the Tool icon on the top right of the screen to go into what is a pseudo Layout Mode, except you may only drag + drop fields from the right hand pane.
All in all I’m impressed at how nice and polished the application is. I don’t know how well it actually illustrates showing “related records” (or if it illustrates it at all from my limited testing), but for college kids or soccer moms, this looks like it has a lot of potential.
Here’s Bento fully up and running:
Here’s a quick screencast I did to show you adding and removing fields from layouts. Also note near the end how container fields behave. Slick, eh?
