Happy Birthday Jeremy! You da man!

ps - Come over sometime and see tha kid, wouldja? :)

Evan Erwin from URL @ 8:26 PM

Possibly my last post before I go on "vacation" to Mississippi to see Ericka's family. Of course I'll probably be stressed out because of the baby, but let's hope not. I do know one thing, a lesson I learned the last time we went: Take time-wasters. Not books mind you, because that's not "communal" and/or Ericka would/might get upset if I go lurking off to devour some pages of some novel. Nope, we're talking playing cards, board games, etc (don't even let me get the idea of bringing my PS2, it's just too enticing...er...doh!).

Anyway, I'm going home this evening and heading for the warm, soft bed so I can get up around 1:30am and hopefully, hopefully hopefully, leave by 2am. I know this is right up there with Impossible Shit That's Funny Because People Actually Think They Can Pull It Off, but a guy can dream. Mainly the child adds about an hour to ANYTHING you want to get done. This isn't mean to badmouth my beautiful daughter, because I'm not. It's just the maintenance factor on children, and the fact that they have to be calm, pacified, changed, ready, the diaper bag has to be checked and rechecked. If Annie gets upset on the way out, all work is null and void and we must get her to calm down before we can proceed. Phew boy, I'm thinking this trip is going to be a LONG ride...and did I mention my mother in law is going? Yeah.

Fuck. Only two words my friends: Camel Spiders.

Well, work was most interesting. The new guy talked to the higher-ups, the higher-ups talked to me and my boss, and then I talked to the higher ups by myself. Of course I can't go into details (this blog is WAAAAY too dangerous for its own good), but let's just say that big things should happen soon.

PHP is going very, very well. Not only did I get INSERTS and DELETES to work, I now have a fully functional UPDATE page as well. And considering there are about 35 different fields in the database, each with different values, and I'm working with a form and all its little quirks (I worked half an hour just to find out I had used the wrote quotes on a variable that wasn't showing up..), this is great news. Now I'm going to work on the layout and how data will be seen/updated/etc. Hmmm....I was always thinking the floor-layout thing, and that could work, but...hmm... my Department doesn't really fit into that hole as easily. Hrm.

Went over my Grandma's this evening, so my Aunt and cousin could see the baby. Got to eat some Damn Good Food too. You know, old school stuff. Meat 'N Taters. Yum.

Palladium? Scares the shit outta me, but I'm not worried in the least. Remember Microsoft BOB? I'll never forget.

And lastly, a bit of nostalgia for my early years. I remember when I was very young, let's say oh about five or six, getting up in the middle of the night so I could partake in four to five hours of cartoons. The ones that stick out are He-Man, Go Bots, and VOLTRON. Oh shit yeah. And just so ya don't forget, here's a little image to keep ya company:

Woohoo, Jeremy was the first to PHP his blog. Tha lucky shit ;) I'm just glad his link didn't include "password=bigman" or something. Would've been funny/cute at least.

Speaking of, I couldn't help but admire the stilt story, since some of my family have done this to me (that is, telling me something which I confirm with everyone else until finally someone tells me the truth). It deals with the death of my uncle, and isn't funny unfortunately (or I would splurge about it here, you know I would), but still, it's nice to know I'm not the only gullible one. Easy to fool people unite! :)

At work, PHP is getting better and better. Forms are shaping up to be not half as hard as I thought they were going to be. What I've been doing is drawing and formatting in Frontpage (You gotta admit their formatting tools are the SHIT. Drawing tables? Gotta love that) then editing in AceHTML Pro the php code. Save, test, update. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Tony, thanks for the interesting insight on Natalie. Damn, what a pose. It's a truly rare thing to live life in fear of someone taking a picture of your pulling the underwear out of your ass.

hmm... need...new....puter. Must...have...new...puter...

....but...I..don't...have...any...c..ash. Shit.

Hmm...fixed the archive links on the left. Wonder what to do about the rest, which are statically linked to www.misterorange.com/blog/archive...

Hrm. Redirects probably. Should've just made then non-static links, but here comes that hindsight 20/20 shit again. Anyways.

"I'm really disappointed that yet again politicians and media people are using a sensible ruling about taking out "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance as a platform for railing on with patriotic and religious fervor about the foundation on which America is built." - Random blogger entry

I think that pretty much sums up my idea about the absence of "under God" thing. Do I think its silly? All this fervor? Yup. I think "under God" hasn't the slightest bit to do with the foundations of this country. This country was not founded on Christian principals and shouldn't be thought of as such. There should be just enough belief and honor in an atheistic society than one that has the church as one of its foundations of power (see England, and its co-ruler the Church of England, a force so strong we rebelled against it and formed this country so you WOULDN'T have to belief in a certain religion in order to remain faithful to your country).

So, I love being an American, and I'm very glad that Christian ethics are slowly being ground out of the gears of the American system/foundation, and can't wait to see "In God We Trust" leave our currency.

:)

Jim: Unfortunately I only tried FIXBOOT and seeing that that didn't work, reinstalled XP. Yeah, it was a little dumb, but hindsight is 20/20.

Went to K-town today and picked up a book about MySQL and PHP. It includes a lot of information I've found elsewhere, but the important thing is that it contains (most to all of) the info I found elsewhere, and its in print. It includes sample code on a CD as well. I was looking for this book but Booksamillion didn't have it in stock (or at all, for that matter). Anyway, as soon as I show the benefits of this book to the bosses at work, the bank will pay for it because basically I'm utilizing it for work purposes. This happened with my Linux Unleashed book a few years back.

Been playing a bit of Magic the Gathering Online. I downloaded the software last night (300MB!) and installed this morning. Basically I paid for a month, $9.95 (I think next month it will be $19.95...not sure) and they give you a $9.95 coupon for a starter deck you can buy at their online store. Anyway, I was addicted to Magic hardcore back in the day, and this just seems right up my alley. Unfortunately you have the paradox of "Wow this is great but I don't really know the cards", so it will be awhile before I'm any good. Unfortunately this means that I might lose interest quickly, and I'll have to go on to Other Things.

Hmm...this site and PHP. I have big plans. Most of them concern the following, in an order that is always changing:

1) PHP weblog up and running

2) Comments

3) Main page ran on PHP

4) Users and passwords

5) user-specific content and/or messages

6) Online game session setup -- this is basically us voting on the game to play that week, and making sure everyone has said game for the set time. Should one of us not have the game, a CD will be sent with the game in tow--I mean, c'mon, CD's cost like $.50 to mail. I'm hoping to getting this working soon :)

7) messageboards

8) chat

9) etc.

Jimdog: why code comments from scratch? Well, if I can't find the code, it's a kick-ass learning experience. If I can, then I'll tweak with it until I am happy with it. As far as War3 and Neverwinter, Neverwinter files are at work (I still don't have all of them...hopefully a repost or PARs will save my ass) and I still haven't had time for Warcraft 3. Maybe tonight, but I doubt it.

Went and saw Minority Report today. It's a good flick, I would rate it somewhere in the 7 outta 10 range. Nothing spectacular, but it was neat enough. Long though. Damn, Spielburg needs an editor. Saving Private Ryan was real long, AI has its long tooth moments (though I still contend that its a brilliant film), and Minority Report just doesn't know when to end its story. I won't disclose anything, but I felt that the last half hour or so limped along to its saw-it-coming conclusion.

Hrm...what else. Nada mucho. Just going through the motion as far as Real Life is concerned. Been trying to find out some info on Cisco certification in Morristown but I don't think they do that here (at least not what I've found). They offer A+ but nothing else. And A+, in my mind, ain't all that. The point is that my job will pay for my Cisco certification. And if they're up for it I am, and it certainly could, in no way, look bad on the ole resume. Remember that prospect I was talking about? This would directly relate to that :)

For PHP coding, I've been using AceHTML 5 Pro, a neat little program that I like a lot. Its in-house viewer is pretty neat (would be even neater if I had MySQL and PHP on this machine) and the syntax coloring is spot-on. Nice stuff there. For those interested, I'll save you the pop-ups required for the registration NFO (enjoy).

Hmm..nice to see Jim updating again. I missed seeing those angst and bored-ridden posts ;)

Until next time...
