And what, pray tell was in the mysterious JoBlo package?

Two DVDs I was going to review for the site a LONG time ago.

The datestamp? 9/28/2001

Well, it's Saturday morning and I've got to go to work. ATM Duty, as it is defined, is me driving all the way up there, sending out a balance file with the balances of all our customers, and me coming back home.

I've have two goals for today:

1. Take my neice and nephew, Courtney and Ethan (5 and 4 respectively), out to eat and the movies. The question here is that I'm torn between Ice Age (a wonderfully goofy film) and E.T. (one of my favorite films as I recall). Though its been at least 10+ years since seeing E.T. I do have fond, fond memories of doing so, and the only thing is that I'm a little worried that 5 and 4 may be too young. However, I'm a big fan of the film and since it stars little kids maybe they'll get into it. Either way I'm letting them make the decision so it's no big deal, right?

2. Get a cell phone. I looked at Sprint PCS and it's nice and all, but expensive. I can't get SunCom, I promised my bud Jeremy I wouldn't make myself suffer with such awful service (he suffered, oh yes, how he did so). I'm going to go by Cingular wireless, though I've already chatted with them in the mall before it's been awhile so I'll go hear their spiel.

I also just got my income tax return! Woo hoo! that $700 will probably pay for me and Ericka's semi-honeymoon on April 12th - 19th. We're going to get married in the courthouse because we're poor and she's pregnant. Yes, I know, sorry excuses and it is quite ghetto but that's life. I don't care, I love the woman to death and I can't wait to be a dad. Should be fun, right? :)

Got some new CDR's last night. 100 Hi-Val's that I hope work with my car CD Player. Considering I run through about 1 audio book a week, I need them to be thick enough for the laser in my car not to pass right through them. Memorex, the vanilla CDR kind not the "Music" CDR's, have this problem. I just burned one so I'll see how they pan out.

The novel is still where I left it the other day, but I plan on getting a few pages written at work after ATM duty is taken care of. It's at an easy jumping off point, an action sequence, and those are usually the funnest to write. Of course, when they begin to get complicated it takes longer, but it's worth it.

This morning I've been listening to an interview with Jonathan Franzen on Fresh Air, who has written what is undoubtedly soon to become a classic: The Corrections. I highly, highly, highly, recommend this book. Considering I listen to two different audio books and usually read two books at once (one audio book in my car, one audio book in the bank's car, one book at work, one book at home), I run through well over 150 novels or so a year and I can tell you this is one of the best books to come along in a VERY long time. Wow, I'm almost done with it and I know I'll be missing it as soon as I put it down.

The best book I read last year was Empire Falls by Richard Russo. He wrote Nobody's Fool, the book that was the basis for that Paul Newman flick. It's a fantastic read.

Well, gotta go do what was listed. First however I have to run by the post office. JoBlo evidently sent me something and I have no idea what it is. Considering I haven't been writing for them for quite some time, it's a bit of a shock. As far as I know I haven't won any contests there either, so it's quite a mystery. Oh well, we'll find out soon enough, won't we?

Just as a note, here's the DVD review for El Mariachi/Desperado (Double Feature).

Paul Russell, the president of DVDAngle.com, also wrote some flattering words in his editorial. Evidently he's read some of my prior work.

Shit, forget about that post beneath here, it's this one but it fucked up and I can't fix it.

The novel continues! Last night I got in a good 4.5 pages or so, solid stuff and I'm excited to get back to it. I love it when I'm on a roll. The hardest parts are those mundane little details, the little things that you have to get through before you can really get the story moving. Thankfully it is doing so, and I'm glad of it.

Ericka was home last night and Tommy and Amanda came over. We played Scattergories. It was pretty fun, though I think we need some more cards. We've run through those 12 lists about 7 or 8 times now. Fun game though.

Work continues. Last night I got the president's laptop working and that was fun. A brand spankin new HP with a docking station running XP Pro. XP ain't so bad on a machine like that, but anything less is (heh) uncivilized. We'll see.

As for the short film, I need to get back to writing it. It's looking hokey now, but I just want to finish it so I can have something done to work with. The most important thing I've found is to NOT LOOK BACK. Never go back and read the whole thing again unless you absolutely have to. What was it Hemingway said? "The first draft of everything is shit." How very true. I can't wait to rewrite the novel, and I'm still writing it. What fun.

Well, I've got a shitload of stuff to do here at work, so I'll jet. Peace.

Well, here I am at work, trying to explain to my bosses what a firewall is and how it works. How exactly do you go about doing that? I'm not sure yet, but I'll figure it out.

Anyway, just talked to Ericka who, after staying at her house (which I didn't want her to do) becuase she said she was going to go shopping today, now decides that she's too broke to go shopping. Jeez.

Finally sent in my card for the tux rental for my friend's wedding. Worse yet, I just found out I will probably have to pay for it! Sheesh. Another bill.

The baby should be here June 11th, not June 4th as originally thought. Let me just say here that Dr. Zane sucks. East Tennessee OBGYN rules! Ericka is most pleased at their performance.

I forgot my book bag today and hence have nothing to read for lunch. That sucks. It also means I can't get anything done on my novel until tonight. I haven't written much in the past two days, I tried last night but lack of sleep and the expense of energy at Jeremy's parents house took it out of me. Damn, I'm afraid I'm going to lose the story if I don't get some serious pages cranked out.

Anyway, there's an update. Cya

Okay, here's my new blog. I just started it, and since everyone and their momma's momma's momma has one (yup, my great granny just started one, she's psyched...or something), I figured I'd give it a shot.

My current projects are, in no particular order:

My novel, which is currently at a nice, steady pace, about 1/3 done
My short film, which requires:
my new mortgage
my mom moving out of my house so I can attain it and get said mortgage
and the script, which I'm still writing.

I've also got a baby coming sometime in June, so that should be interesting. Ericka is doing well right now, and, for those interested, she just started lactating. This could possibly be the coolest thing ever.

As far as the novel is concerned it seems to have two main threads, both of which are going well, and with 100 pages or so down, I'm looking forward to writing on it everyday, as I do. With my average handwriting being 4-5 pages a day, six days a week, it's looking good and should be finished in a few months. We'll see how it goes.

As for the short film it's been an idea of mine for quite a while and I've really enjoyed seeing it develop. It's about a guy who wants to kill himself, but can't. As for the why, you'll have to stay tuned :)

Well, here I am at the end of another day. I'm going over Jeremy's house tonight to teach a computer lesson for his parents and partake in some potato soup. Should be interesting.

Also of note, just today I was confirmed that I'm now an official reviewer at DVD Angle, so expect my first review, for the El Mariachi/Desperado DVD, to show up soon.
