Rise of the Titans Themes & Mechanics (Part 2)

Let's continue in our examination of what makes Rise of the Titans work.

Lure

Lure is exactly what you think it is: It provides the "Lure" ability (all creatures able to block this creature must do so) to the creature. This ability is paid for only during the announcement of attackers.

There are only a few creatures in this set with Lure, but I'm sure it'll pop up again later on. Here is the official rules text of Lure:

Lure - "Cost" (When ~ attacks, you may pay "Cost". If you do, all creatures able to block ~ this turn must do so.)

Here are a few examples:

For those who like the combat step (and/or like to break up a stalemate), these guys are for you.

Breakout Morph

Lots of people love Morph, because it's the thrill of the unknown. They just have to target it to see what's under there. But what if you wanted to target it just as badly? That way you'd get an even better creature or a desired effect.

This is a small cycle (one in each color and an artifact), but I think it's fun as a little one-of for each slice of the pie:

Stormed Madness

Here is a fun idea that is currently on three cards. These cards are more expensive to play for their Madness cost but gain Storm when you do so. These could either be powerhouses in constructed (the Cyclone) or annoying in Two-Headed Giant (Whirlwind). Either way, they're fun to play with and build around.

Titan Legends and Spells

One of the defining characteristics for the block en large and each color are the Titans. Each color gets many Titans in all rarities. Titans are a supertype, like Tribal. You can control as many Titan permanents as you wish.

Within these Titan creatures and permanents you'll find themes, strengths, and weaknesses.

Common Titans

These creatures are designed to help boost your entire army in different ways. Titans are creatures that generally give a boost to either the player or fellow creatures.

Uncommon Titans

These creatures increase in power level but also begin to show weaknesses of their color (Krunx is too big for his own good, as it were).

Rare "Marquee" Titans

These are the creatures that are the marquee Titans for each color. They were designed as a cycle. They all utilize the Rescind mechanic in interesting ways:

The Four Multicolor Titan Legends

Ah yes, these four. These Legends represent their respective cultures, lands, and colors. They were designed to harken to the most defining elements of their colors as well as classic cards you may think of when reading them.

These also all use the Rescind mechanic in different ways:

Titan creatures are meant to give a sense of wonder and awe, and hopefully don't confuse the player.
