In this, our final chapter of the Fires of Heaven saga, we find all of the factions in chaos.
Durak succeeded in his coup of the mighty Gen'dai lands, as King Hayzan was killed in a fierce battle which left the populus stunned. But more stunning was the introduction of Nulen, the twelve year old princess, taking the reins from her father and ordering the soldiers to battle. They would send word to the Angel Queen Serran Arbitex. She would know what to do.
With their enemies busy with other foes, the Elves and Granook began working together to find not only a common bond, but for basic food and shelter. Together they began to shape the new land into something unique and their own.
Their proud leader, Kynen Leafblade, forged through the Durak Marsh to the other side of the bog, to this new place. She was proud and strong and a true leader. She was confident that, even though she had witnessed a great many evil things from her battles with the darkness, she would not herself succumb to its power.
Kynen Flesheater was born.
As word spread throughout the land, there would need to be a hunt for the new, evil Kyren. A group of warriors, called the Journeyers, began walking into the Marsh, sure never to be seen again. Each concerned party--the Gen'dai, the Granook, and Jantille from the Nagrock--all had vested interest to the killing of the new, evil Kynen. After a long fortnight they were victorious, and the Gen'dai, Granook, and Nagrock ate at the same table and rejoiced the killing of their most notorious traitor.
She got her way quite often.
But those on the ground were concerned with other things. The dragons had come to roost, bringing their knowledge and their fiece keepers. Before Neno could ask what was going on, Spixen (spy-zen), Dragon Incarnate had arrived. With him came the fury and passion that was once lost, and suddenly those in Coldstone were feverish for battle again.
Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Joondai there were elders afoot. The great if not absent-minded Johan the Wise was on the prowl, working his brain thoroughly to stop the harsh new threats that seemed to appear every day.
The Crosswind teachings had been very secretive until now, turning objects into stone before manipulating them and setting them loose again. It was said that to be manipulated by a Crosswind disciple would be undetectable unless by the most powerful wizard.
This new Crosswind league had the Joondai ministers worried, for their leader was a powerful wizard who held a great grudge for the teachings of the Academy. His appearance was both feared and anticipated, for their magic had never been seen before.
And for a moment there was nothing.
And for a moment the world held their breath.
And the leaders began to pray, and chant, and worry, and tell their loved ones goodbye.
And in that final Twilight, there was deliverance.
