In a time and place before our own....

- The Granook, a major green creature type in Fires of Heaven (with only 1-2 creatures with the type in Broken Borders) have been decimated, holocaust style (see: Demise of the Granook) from the ancient Kirkwood Forest by the evil Durak the Forgotten (who debuted in Fires of Heaven)

- Istanile and her sister, Jantille, battle furiously for control between the kingdoms of the Joondai and the harsh mountains of Coldstone

- Senara the Sightless is the prophet by which the Marzan and Gen'dai people trust and her guidance led the construction of the Gates which seperate each territory.

- The Gates of each people are represented by an enchantment (Enchant Basic Land Type of that people): Gates of the Joondai, Gen'dai, Durak Marsh, Coldstone, and Kirkwood. They all provide a flavorful effect as well as representing the 'fracturing' of the world they used to inhabit--gates are unknown in the world of Fires of Heaven, and the war that erupts is where Broken Borders gets its name
