quick hits

Just a few random thoughts.

Bible Study

Who says I never paid attention as a kid?

You know the Bible 77%!

Wow! You are truly a student of the Bible! Some of the questions were difficult, but they didn't slow you down! You know the books, the characters, the events . . . Very impressive!

Tobacco Props

This past weekend myself, Jeremy and Tony all went on a road trip to Nashville for some Prince's Hot Chicken. The chicken was indeed hot and delicious (as were the lovely ladies at the Crazy Horse later that evening).

But my point is, the trip was sponsored by Lighthouse Tobacco who provided lots of cool lighters, cigars, clove cigarettes and just about anything else tobacco related we could think of. Not that we got anywhere near finishing all of that stuff, but I'll admit I probably smoked a few more cloves than necessary. It was the boobs I tell you, the boobs!

Int.erest.ing

For those who care about such things, I've begun using my del.icio.us account to keep track of some bookmarks. Using the OSX app Pukka I just drag + drop URLs and then describe the link afterwards. Not too shabby, I like it so far. And I'm really (really) tired of having to recreate and retrace bookmarks from all over.

OSX4L!

It's official, my 17" Macbook is my new computer. This means each and every business operation is ran through the OSX operating system.

Of course, I couldn't just run OSX. There are too many mission critical apps And so do I! that need Windows. So I get Parallels and let me tell you people, it is truly living the dream. Not only did it boot my Boot Camp partition (something I'm still impressed with), but it has FULL integration. We're talking network, graphics card (it automatically resizes the desktop resolution based on the OSX Window size!), I can even access my entire OSX Partition and all files/folders therein using a handy little drive they install for me.

Quite simply it's incredible. And I'm becoming extremely attached to OSX and envious of those who've had access to the tools I've missed out on for so long.

IM? Go get Adium.

Need a great browser? Don't just get Firefox, get the Firefox build that has been specifically compiled to run faster on Intel machines (and boy, does it!) right here.

Need a way to keep track of tasks? Go make a TaDa List and then get the appropriate widget. Matter of fact, go to the Widget Homepage and see what they have. I have about five of the top 10 (Free text messages, Sudoku, etc), and plenty of great widgets such as the one to lookup dictionary/thesaurus words, a great image resizer called Image Shackle and more.

All in all, I'm loving it (queue the horrible jingle music). The only real problems I've had so far have been adjusting my keyboard shortcuts (i.e. the use of the Apple key for copying and pasting instead of the Ctrl key), but that's very much a minor issue. It also gets pretty warm, but then again I purchased a laptop cooling unit for it to sit on for that reason. The 17"er is the biggest (and therefore hottest), and I've not seen/noticed any hotness problems with other models including the regular iBook.

Bottom line: If you want a laptop, just get a Macbook Pro. You'll never be so satisfied with a laptop. I've seen and dealt with laptops for well over a decade now, from Win95 lappys with 8" screens to my big badass here. It is second to none.

So please call me, baby, wherever you are
It's too cold to be out walking in the streets

I too have a fondness for OSX, but I'm much more inclined to run it on a beige box and support it myself thanks =)

Speaking of Tony, I ran into him this week in Gatlinburg while in a total state of inebriation... That should make for a nice post on his blog =)
