Duh
Last night I gave Annie a Pull Up to put on before bed (she's still not to the panties-at-night stage yet).
"You want me to put this on?"
"Duh," I said and immediately regretted it. "Yes baby, yes please put it on."
But Annie wasn't going to let it slide. "Daddy, what does duh mean?"
I groaned. "Daddy shouldn't have said that. Duh is what someone says when they mean yes, but they're saying it in a mean way. We don't use duh around here, and Daddy shouldn't have used it just now."
"Oh, okay," she said, and put it on, got in bed, etc.
The funnest part of being a parent is watching them learn.
The most excruciating part of being a parent is watching them learn hurtful things. And the last thing I want to do is contribute to that.
Grr.

At least you realize that you should not be teaching your kids how to be jerks. I have some friends that could use this lesson. Kudos.
