Ten Feet

This weekend my family moved out of our apartment.

How far did we move? Ten feet.

Everything in the house drifted downwards ten feet. But for just ten feet, I've never worked so hard.

Quite simply, it's been The Great Erwin Exodus around here. I've taken out--literally--25+ bags of trash out of our old apartment. We're talking busted toys, we're talking old nasty clothes, busted books and nostalgia-laced junk. I'm a very simple-leaning guy. I want my living area to be as clean and uncluttered as possible.

Sorta...ten feet...ish. And, to put it nicely, my house was not uncluttered last week. Now? Pretty damn uncluttered.

So, with a huge HUGE thanks to my friends Jeremy, EJ and Michael, I got all of it from the upstairs to the downstairs in one piece and greatly simplified my existence.

Man, it feels so great to have an apartment that has basically been rebooted. The layout is the same, the kitchen is the same, the space is the same--except there are new cabinets, new carpeting, new paint. The whole thing is really starting over fresh in what was once a space you were unhappy with and molding it as you unpack your stuff.

You know how you hate where the dirty clothes may go? Dirty dishes? Mail? Living room layout? Bedroom positioning? It was just too much hassle to deal with a few weeks ago, but when you have to move everything, and better yet in the exact same dimensions, well, shit, you can right that wrong.

So while I'm extremely excited I've still got the post-move soreness all over. Things are settling down and Abby is just fine. Annie has been spending a lot of time with her grandmother, and after a short stop by home last night, I know why: Her nana lets her run wild. She would thrash and scream when I told her no, and she seemed shocked when discipline was handed down as a result.

She will not be spending tonight with her grandmother, as Dad's Rules are officially in effect again.

I'm now trying to finish the upcoming Magic Show for StarCity, and hopefully I'll squeeze that in tonight. Phew.

I am somewhere in this city
I am climbing up a fire escape
