Our Pathetic President
Who doesn't see what sort of hell he's taking us toward?
We interpret the Geneva Convention one way, then North Korea/Iran get their own torture ticket, personal secret prisons and hidden evidence... I'll let Mr. Bush speak for himself on this one. Just watch him stumble all over himself.
Are there any Republicans who would ever approve of the hypothetical situation proposed there? (i.e. Special Forces soldier gets captured and tortured in N. Korea because they 'interpret' article 3 of the Geneva Convention how they see fit, then they convict him to a death sentence on secret, unseen evidence.)
2008 couldn't get here fast enough.

Isn't it possible that the President has no intention of abusing, humiliating,or otherwise demeaning PoWs captured by US soldiers? I know,it's such a difficult concept to grasp, but at what point,in what speech,or in which memo did the President declare that his intention behind revising the laws regarding the treatment of prisoners was to legalize their torture? The problem is this:the laws as they stand, prohibit certain types of actions,be they abusive, cruel, demeaning, or otherwise, but there is no actual standard as to what is abusive, cruel, et cetera. What we decide is abusive might be considered acceptable elsewhere in the world, and vice versa. This needs to be changed;the law needs to be updated to specify what exactly is considered acceptable and what is not. You cannot simply assume that the President's intentions in updating the law is to contort it to allow the torture of our detainees.
The fact is that if N. Korea captured a soldier of ours they may well torture him or sentence him to death because they will interpret the Geneva Convention anyway they want as will any other country.
How did he get re-elected? How does he manage to get any sort of positive approval rating from even a minority in this country? Each time I listen to him speak, I become more and more afraid of where he is "leading" us. The next election can't get here fast enough. And despite what North Korea or whoever else might do to our soldiers, we should hold ourselves to a better standard than they. Dropping to their level is unconscionable and merely generates a negative momentum.
His time is up, let him go and get out of my government! Stop meddling with our laws! Quit f***ing with my rights! GOODBYE!
