New Music
Okay everybody, I've got some interesting new CDs for you. I think you'll dig most (if not all) of this music. I know I do.
Pete Yorn - Nightcrawler
Pete is one of those artists who is forever imbibed into my memory due to his masterpiece, musicforthemorningafter (his first disc). In Nightcrawler he's a bit darker, but also brings the rockish-pop we all know, love, and expect from him.
While this disc is no musicforthemorningafter (and what is), it's much better than his last record. Here are the following Must Listens on the album:
Vampyre
Undercover (best)
The Man
Ice Age
Other than those four, the rest of the record is for fans only (i.e. they're not terrible songs, but if you want to 'get into' the record, start on those four).
Midlake - The Trials Of Van Occupanther
Here is an interesting band. They have a very sort of folk mentality laced with interesting hooks and pop-like sensibility.
Sometimes I wonder if all of those odd metaphors and adjectives can actually describe their music. These guys are all their own.
Must listens:
Roscoe
Bandits (best)
Head Home
We Gathered In Spring
Those first three songs are tracks #1-#3 on the record, which tells you what kind of start it has. Hell, I could name a majority of the tracks on it, as I'm a huge fan of the record.
Devotchka - How It Ends
Really, really cool record. I'm still absorbing it, so no final list of listenables on this one. However, I must stress that you need to listen to the title track.
Then when you do and tell me its unimpressive, listen again.
Then when you do and say it's growing on you, listen again.
Then try to not listen to it again.
These guys (from the USA, heh) go on some sort of pseudo-European tour of interesting and cool music. Everything from the incredibly emotional How It Ends (title track) to tracks that border on polka (but don't, natch).
Either way, highly recommended.
Until tomorrow, peeps.
