The Search for A Good Story: Family Matters, Week of 8-27-06

Every week I write about my family. Welcome to it.

This week (and the last, really), we've had a little dilemma: Ever since Ericka began watching the bro-in-law's two little boys, EPox and TRex respectively, we've a bit of an issue with Abby.

Now I covered the Annie ass-whoopin' issue last week, and this week it's Abby's turn for issues.

Abby has a new problem: Whenever the baby is around, she begins to pee on herself.

Note, Abby has been fully potty trained for months and months now. So this is a bit of a shock.

And, of course, as soon as the baby leaves, the peeing-on-oneself stops.

Here's something that I couldn't hard believe: I knelt down and asked my daughter, straight to her face, "Abby, do you pee on yourself because momma's watching the baby?"

"Uh huh" she says in that cute way of hers.

I breathe out heavily.

"I sowwy daddy."

"It's okay baby, but you gotta stop doing this. You have to stop peeing on yourself because momma is watching TRex."

"Okay, I will. I sowwy daddy."

"It's okay sweetie," I say with a hug attached, "just promise you won't do it anymore."

"I p'omise."

And, of course, she does it again. Continually, all day, and sometimes even after they've left she keeps this up. Now I know the Annie situation was more behavioral, but this is, dare I say it, psychological? I have no idea how to approach this beyond Ericka either stop watching the kids or Abby getting over it.

Between the two, something has to happen.

Fingers crossed.

But we're still buying diapers until we know for sure.
