Dell's Hell Finally Froze Over

Holy cow, Dell has a blog! Who’da thunk it.

Back in the days of Jeff Jarvis kicking Dell’s ass after he had a bad laptop experience, I joined right in. I told them about how I’ve dealt with my own Dell problems at home and the runarounds associated with that.

With that said, I currently really like the blog as it looks right now (easy to read, good interface, easy to find how to subscribe, etc), but I think it needs a few things:

1. Who is writing this? I have no idea who is behind the typewriter there. There are names attached to each post, but if those posts aren’t video, I have no idea. Pictures please!

2. Post Dell’s current goals. I would love to know what Dell thinks of Vista, of what they think of the server space (is it growing, is it dead, is it having problems) and what their plan is for rolling out operating systems.

One2One2One2One...3. Nuts and bolts posts. I would like to see a post that showed how a dell PC is made. Then one on how a Dell server is made. If this info is somewhere else, great—just reformat it for a blog post and put it out there. Don’t make me read a PDF or something.

3a. If I could see a video of “How A Dell PC is Made” that would be fantastic. (Server, even more so—the testing, the software, etc).

4. I love the voices there right now, from the geeky to the non-geeky. I would like to see some very technical oriented posts (the only one right now is dealing with power issues in a server room) that get all nitty-gritty. Why Raid X as the default? Why this brand of memory?

5. The vlogs are tremendous. But sucks having to open them in Windows Media Player. Take a tip from YouTube—let us play them in the browser please.

Wow, and this is all I have to ‘complain’ about. Call me a convert, Dell guys—I’m officially impressed.

Some claim to have the fortitude
To shrewd to blow the interlude
