True Entertainment
Okay, I’ll take some time today before the weekend to drop a few hot, sexy links and amazing records on your cerebral cortex.
John August - The writer and director of Go, the writer of Charlie and Chocolate Factory, The Borne Supremacy and Big Fish writes an amazing blog. I’m always excited to read his posts.
Ken Levine – A new find. This guy is a television comedy writer and his writing is fun and interesting and hilarious. Another one I’m excited to read. Let’s just say for the rest of this list I’m always happy to find new posts from these people.
Waiter Rant – A thoughtful blog from what you would assume is an unthoughtful profession. Always a pleasure to read this one.
Hanzi Smatter – Weird name, good blog. You know all of those people who get those ‘cool looking Chinese tattoos’ and you just know they’re gibberish or wrong? Well, they are, and this guy shows you exactly what they mean and how the tattoo artist (or person getting the tat) is wrong.
Music
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Aw yes, this is a great band with a cool, catchy sound. If there is one thing that I was impressed with most by my new coworker is that his music geekery is lightyears beyond mine. The female lead singer is fantastic for their work, and the catchy cool pop hits just keep coming.
Suggested record: Show Your Bones
Suggested song to make you love them: Gold Lion and/or Phenomena
Spoon
Now I’ve ranted about these guys before, but since it’s been awhile I’ll bring them back up. I recently acquired an older record of theirs (Kill the Moonlight) and it’s love all over again. To those who’ve never listened to them…I’m just envious.
Suggested Record: Gimme Fiction
Suggested song to make you love them: I Turn My Camera On (watch the video)
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Ah yes, these indie pop/emo guys are exceptional. They do take a little getting used to, it’s primarily
because their warbly lead singer gives them such a unique sound. To those who like Talking Heads you will love the lead singer. To those who “don’t much care” for David Byrne’s vocal talent, you won’t care much for these guys either. But damn are they exceptional.
Suggested Record: Self Titled (It’s their one and only)
Suggested song to make you love them: The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth
Watch: Is This Love? – Live on Letterman
Okay, I’ve given you plenty to chew on. Now get to listening/reading!
See you next week.
