Family Matters: 4 Year Anniversary

Wow, what timing, huh? The weekly family post marks four years I’ve been with my lovely wife Ericka.

From the first time I saw her I could tell she was different (in a good way). I could tell that she was kind and caring and I found myself blessed to be with her. Even while I’m not religious I can easily see how blessed I am to find a woman who takes care of me, my children, and happily accomplishes the tasks I dreadfully avoid.

Not that I’m completely adverse to washing clothes, it’s just…you wouldn’t like the result. I bought a lot of new pants when I lived by myself.

Anyway, four years ago today we rushed to the Morristown Court House and ran in and told them to make us husband and wife. I still had my old job at Citizens Bank and I still believed I was going to be there forever. Annie was coming soon—and yes it was a catalyst, thanks cynics—but no matter. We were in love and we were happy and we spent a week at Mrytle Beach, the sort of defacto redneck honeymoon destination.

As for a Huge Bravado Wedding, my wife dreams of it and I want to make those dreams come true. Part of me says it could happen in a few years but the rest of me is sure that it will not until another ‘major’ anniversary arrives, such as the 10th anniversary. My boss is leaving this Friday for Las Vegas to renew his 10–year wedding vows and is doing it with an Elvis impersonator no less.

24 Photos, 3 Songs, 1 Marriage. Total value? Priceless.

So we roll on week after week and I can happily say that I’ve been blogging for my entire marriage and God willing and the creek don’t rise (as the southern saying goes), I’ll be around blogging and matrimonying it for years to come.

So thanks to my awesome wife for the amazing fun and joy she’s brought me over the years. From the Best Birthday Ever to the best kids ever, she’s something else.

I’ll leave you with what I’m looking at on my wall right now—the April 2006 page of my custom calendar Ericka put together for me last year for the aforementioned Best Birthday Ever. You’ll find plenty of new and old pictures, including one of us on our honeymoon (it’s the one with me shirtless—eek!).

Yes, that's me in the top right.

And I could give you my apologies
And I could take away your shaky knees
