In the Mix
I’m feeling a little scattered today, so this post reflects that…
Did you know I played music regularly for years? Yup, I’m a singer/songwriter, or at least I was. I played everyday, I sang my own songs, I sang others, and I still sing. But I just don’t have time for it in my life.
For those interested, here is an unreleased track I was listening to today in the car. It’s an instrumental and while the audio needs a serious boost (what’s up with the low volume?), I always enjoyed the piece.
You can find more of my music over here.
Each year American Idol comes back I get all jittery and wonder if I should go audition, just to see. And ‘just seeing’ has led to all sorts of good things.
For example, I went on a date ‘just to see’ if I would like the girl. Her name was Ericka and it didn’t take long before we were smitten. That was six years ago tomorrow. So happy anniversary, sweetheart! I know it doesn’t compare to the cool 10 year milestone over at AT, but a geek has to start somewhere…and in 4 years I’ll have my own.
I also found some great stuff in the interim. Remember when I said I loved Taylor Hawkins yesterday? Well his name is actually Taylor Hicks and I found a place that is selling a CD of his and provides 3 mp3s of his to take in. You'll find that here. Enjoy. He may not have the most amazing music, but he has all of my respect. In a field full of wannabes he seems like nothing but the real thing.
And did you see him play harmonica on the last show? Damn people, this is talent!
Moving on I can’t help but find the Mormon truth revealed to be funny. What is shocking is not so much the facts (I especially love the fact that ‘dark skinned’ people are ‘unpure’ and desperately strive to be ‘white’ er, ‘pure’…okay), but that all of these people are getting rocked (like a hurricane) to their very core because they religious beliefs may be wrong.
Seriously people, if some scientific evidence is all that takes to rock your faith, then you haven’t been paying attention.
Of course people are quick to correct the story and will be happy to write a thousand pages of unreadable text just to prove their point. If you’re feeling some insomnia, feel free to read up on the rebuttals for the cure.
Me? I think you should believe in the ideals and not the idols. Idols in terms of people, in terms of pages in a book. Jesus was cool, but what he believed in (the golden rule) is far more interesting to me. Who cares if he walked on water? It’s about the way you treat people. All of that fire and brimstome stuff is just boogeyman stories to me.
You don’t have to walk on water to be nice to people. To respect people. To do unto others. It kills me how a lot of ‘Christians’ don’t seem to grasp these concepts. Mainly, it’s why I’m not one. But if there’s a Christian I look up to, it’s definitely Gary. I should’ve included him in the meme-roll yesterday. I think the guy is fascinating. Who knews pastors could get it? Not I…and according to the media, not many others either.
Switching gears…do you know your Chuck Norris Facts? My friends and I play this game all the time. I just love the goofiness of them. Let me share with you my favorite Chuck Norris fact:
Chuck Norris killed a cloud
It may come off badly here, but at the time? It almost put me in the floor. Think about it, say it out loud. Try not to laugh.
Okay, with music and milestones and idols and mormons and religion and Chuck Norris under my belt, I’m gonna shut up now. See you Monday.
We'll remain after everything's been washed away by the rain
We will stand upright as we stand today

Haha. Dude, you're lucky because I'm probably the only person that reads your blog and knows that you completely stole the flavor text off of worship....
