Family Matters, Week of 12-25-05

Ah yes, here we are: The last Family Matters post of the year. Who knew? It’s been a great year and I never thought that back in February I’d be carrying on a weekly tradition for so long. It’s really great to have the ability for pure retrospection, just another reason blogs are so great.

But enough of this, on to the show!

Annie (3 year old wonder)

Annie loves her new princess kitchen and play hut. Now ‘hut’ is a misnomer because for a hut you only need a small enclosed space. But this, the Disney Princess Superhut (or whatever its official name is) takes up almost their entire bedroom and is big enough to completely house the Disney Princess table + chairs they got for Christmas.

As you can see, we’ve got a real Princess theme running around. I’m apt to throw out a Princess Annie story each night at bedtime (complete with her friends like Pinky the Dragon and the Mean Ole Witch) and we just went from there. So after a few hundred nights and a few hundred stories, anything princess-themed is good.

An interesting anomaly: Leading up to Christmas, every time I would ask her what she wanted the first thing she would say is “a Doodle Bear.” What’s the last thing she’s been playing with? Exactly.

However, the girls are just vicious over this little plastic stroller my aunt got them. While they completely ignore the other Princess stroller my mother-in-law got them. Kids are truly strange sometimes.

Abby (1.85yr old superkid)

Abbers has made cuteness an art. She’s really into her pigs, she’s really into her babies, and otherwise she just runs around and jumps and plays. I wish there was more to it, but really, the kid is just in the funloving stage. She has a little of the Terrible Twos in her (we see them poke out from time to time), but by and large she’s doing great and has all of the baby stuff she could ever want.

We have two baby dolls, the aforementioned stroller (both generic and princess), the baby bed, the baby swing(!), and the baby crib.

I’m guessing for next christmas she’ll have the baby beach house complete with baby corvette and baby volkswagon parked outside. With baby bimbos who hang out and pretend they know a baby who lives there. Then a baby bum will come by asking for baby money. After the baby police take that baby prick to baby jail, then we can visit him in the baby penitentiary.

Or…whatever.

Ericka (her blog)

My wife is currently struggling to get the house back in order. Remember when I said a few weeks ago that she was cleaning the house as a Christmas present? Well, she got a huge amount of work done…only to slide a bit when so many toys and gifts and goodwill came our way. Now she’s getting that overwhelming feeling again, and I hope it passes soon. It’s easier to tell her it’s not so bad and then trudge off to work on computers all day, leaving messy stuff like child-raising and laundry-washing to the wife.

To which I would like to say: Thanks babe and I love you. Just so we’re clear (and because I like clean clothes, thanks).

Etc

Here are a few items of note:

– I’ve been podcasted! In the Trenches, a podcast for sysadmins, found my super-linked Top 10 post and contrasted it with this other list that is, frankly, much better.

Rare Erotica – Not safe for work, but also really old too. At this point it’s almost considered vintage art that won’t get you fired instead of vintage porn…but I wouldn’t risk it.

The Dilbert Blog – Tell me you’re reading this. It’s just…so…good.

And with that, I’m done.
