Family Matters, Week of 11-6-05

Every week I do a family rundown. Welcome to it.

Annie

My wonderful 3–year old has decided that the morning belongs only to her. She gets up sometimes in the middle of the night and climbs in mom and dad’s bed. This isn’t a big deal, but unfortunately after I go to work and Ericka is still asleep, Annie takes it upon herself to go cause ‘mischief’.

And what I mean by mischief is tearing down the baby gate we keep on the kitchen, somehow finding a bottle of fingernail polish in there, and painting the coffee table with the stuff. Yes, this got Ms. Thing a free spanking.

This morning she had pushed the gate down again and hurt herself. She told her momma about it as Ericka was waking up. She was, of course, pouty as she had a boo-boo. But once she unveiled the method by which she had gotten it, all sympathy was cut off.

“Good, hopefully you won’t do that again.”

Annie was, as you could imagine, not happy with this answer.

Abby

Abigail Riley is an interesting character. On one hand she is the antithesis to Annie right now. Whereas Annie is pushing boundaries left and right, Abby is happy to be in her own little world, as long as she can exert some control on at least a few of those circumstances. Eating, mostly.

This will, of course, change as soon as she gets a little older, but while she’s young and sweet and innocent and blissfully ignorant of the true damage she’s capable of, I’ll be grateful.

Ericka

My loving wife, when not ruining beverages has, unfortunately, heard nothing from the restaurant she sent the cheesecake samples to. The optimist says that they’re just taking their time. The realist in me doesn’t say anything regarding this situation. See this post for reasoning. I’m kidding.

Anyway, Ericka is planning on taking the kids to get their pictures taken this evening, something I know will either be gangbusters or armageddon. I’m not sure yet. Last time she tried both children getting their pictures taken it was a disaster, and I hope my young’ins can act decent in the store while this process occurs. My friend Chris, who Annie adores, will be taking the photos. Unfortunately this had no impact on the last try, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

And toes.

And shoelaces.

Let us pray.

It’s also Ericka’s brother’s birthday today. So Happy Birthday Jeremy!

Etc

First thing: If you read my humble site with a feed reader, such as Onfolio (just love those guys), you should stop by the real thing sometime. I’ve changed the page width for easier reading, and I’ve added a random header image to the site. Each time you refresh it will choose a random header displaying the name of this blog. I’ve got 9 pictures in there so far, with the 9th added just today. Thanks to a great random image generator found on A List Apart, I can add new ones at any time and they’ll immediatley enter the rotation. Refresh continuously and find your favorite today! (heh)

And now it’s time for the interesting crap I find on the net:

Soundboards – Fantastic little soundbite site. For those who make podcasts or prank phone calls, this site is for you buddy.

Baby Name Voyager – Did you know that no kids were born after 1970 named Dick? Or that Evan only got popular in the past 30 years? Fascinating stuff here. Warning: You'll need this installed (Java).

PSP Ad – It’s hot, it’s sexy, it’s the best ad for a mobile gaming system ever made.

Invalid folder names – You can’t create a folder named “CON” on your computer, unless you’re on a mac. Go ahead, try it. See?

See ya tomorrow.

We’re broken, we are bitter
We’re the problem, we’re the politicians

I like the changes. I find I sometimes enjoy editing my site's layout and look more than actually writing content (obviously). It's the graphic-artist/developer-wannabe in me, I guess.

I'm still not happy with it. I just got real lazy.

Man, I'm the same way. Me and the missus will stay up late into the evening working on the theme for the site, and then I'll procrastinate putting a post on it all day long.
