Family Matters, Week of 10-2-05
October is here, and it is slowly but surely cooling down outside. Fall is by far my favorite time of year, so yay for that.
On to the fam!
Annie
Annie, my darling daughter, does some of the most interesting behavior regarding Abby. For example, she’ll happily “Take Abby to go potty” but while she’s in there will attempt to wash her hands, drink water from a plastic block she found in there, and perhaps (if left alone long enough) dig into the medicine cabinet.
It is for these reasons (and catching her in the act of climbing on the counter) that Annie doesn’t take Abby to the bathroom by herself any longer.
Abby
Abby McAbberson has a perogative, let me tell you. She has come up with an unspoken rule (mostly because she can’t really speak in full sentences to explain it) that No Food Shall Enter The Mouth Of Abbers Unless She Is Holding/Controlling It. This goes for spoons with soup on them, bananas, cookies, sharing a sandwich with dad, the whole bit. She’ll cry and do the “Abby Dance of Anger” (A quick hopping on both feet…ridiculously cute, sad, and funny) until she gets to hold the reins. And hell, why not? I give her the spoon and stand back, trying not to harp too much on spilled food. I’m glad she’s independent, and Annie’s influence is more and more apparent by the day.
Ericka (her blog)
My wonderful wife has been studiously finishing her classes in cake-making and baking, culminating in a gorgeous wedding cake. I believe she still has one class left, but I could be mistaken. Otherwise she’s been doing a world-class job of giving me things I don’t deserve (Sly Cooper 3, PS2 Wireless Controller, etc etc) and keeping me and the kids fed, clothed, and loved.
Yesterday she picked up a few books, The Memory Keeper's Daughter and Citizen Girl. Maybe she’ll talk about them on the blog she rarely updates. Who knows. I was just begging her last night to explain her preparation (and execution) of my birthday party, but as of right now no dice. You can lead a blogger to a New Entry screen, but you can’t make them type…
Etc
Ah yes, the sweet, sweet Quick Hits. I promise these are all 100% Interesting:
– Ferenc Cako - Sand Animation – Absolutely stunning. When I read the description, “Ferenc holds a live animation session with a projector and sand,” I cried bullshit. Then I watched it, picked my jaw up off the floor, and kicked my own ass. This is awesome.
– Linux Terminal Server in 45 Minutes (or less) – For those who need a “thin client” solution, this is it. Keep everything centralized and tidy, and with the right equipment, in just under an hour! (Okay, okay, honestly it would take you a day or so I’m sure, but at least they’re optimists)
– Lego Stoners – What those little bastards are doing when you’re gone and why your stash is gone before it should be.
– FavIcon Maker – See that Libra symbol next to the address at the top of your browser? (If you’re in a feedreader, you’ll have to visit the site to see it) I made that by finding the image I wanted, saving it, moving it, manually shrinking it down to a 16x16 pixel image, blah blah blah. This site makes it much easier for you to create/post your own.
– 6 Degrees of St. Elsewhere – I didn’t even watch that old drama yet somehow its reach is never ending. I’m guessing before it’s over I’ll be an autistic kid’s dream too.
Until tomorrow, have you visited the CCGBlog? I’m working on content for that.
