Family Matters, Week of 9-25-05
Ah, as the month winds down and the party festivities ease up, let's see what the fam is getting into…
Annie
To quote from a phone call today: “Annie has a serious discipline problem.”
And I just can’t see it.
That’s not being facetious, it’s just that Annie acts differently while I’m around. She tends to listen more and react quicker. I don’t know if I have a more “Take No Prisoners” attitude (because I don’t), or because our time together is so short (around 3–4 hours a day). Either way, it is a problem and apart from a Super Nanny or Dr. Phil intervention, probably won’t change much.
She tends to either horde newcomers with love and appreciation (the fix-it guy at the apartments came in today and she kept asking what he was doing and telling him “I love you.”), or act out regardless.
A 3–year old acts bratty, film at 11.
Abby
Abby on the other hand has a new first! She used the potty for the first time this week, a feat that beat Annie’s development by almost a year. Abby has obviously see Annie using the potty and, as has been the case ever since she’s existed, has accelerated Annie’s pace by quite a bit.
While their rivalries and arguments can certainly be disruptive, I like the fact that Annie’s progress makes Abby work that much harder. It’s an interesting dynamic and with such a clear example set for her, it’s nice to know that Abby has that someone to look up to.
Ericka (her blog)
Ah, Ericka. I think I’ve said about all of the good things I can think of right now, but I’m sure I’ll find more. When she’s not planning the Best Birthday Parties Ever, she’s been adamant with her cake classes and last night finished a beautiful little wedding cake. Matter of fact, most of it was eaten by coworkers today (much to their surprise and appreciation). Otherwise, she’s set to finish them this coming Tuesday and I’m sure will have some photos either here or on her own blog.
Etc
The beats roll on, let’s see what I dug up this week.
– My CCGBlog has been updated for the first time in months. I plan on posting there much more often in order to get geeky game designer stuff out of my head.
– PSPTV is incredible, developed by TeamXtender. Too bad it costs about half as much as the PSP itself. I could see it being a possible purchase for around $40.
– Comic Book Greats – Two fully downloadable VHS videos, digitized for your pleasure. I had one of these “how to draw comic book characters” things when I was a kid. It featured a guy named Todd McFarlane drawing a little character called Spawn. I loved it, and these are in the same vein, and bring back memories.
– Hi res wallpaper – You ever sit around and say “Man, I wish I had some 2560x1600 wallpaper?” Well, sit and say no more! It’s here! (Other resolutions are represented as well)
– FRVade – This is a crappy version of notpron, which me and Jeremy have fought toward level 16. If you haven’t started notpron, you should. It’s amazingly rewarding. Even their first few levels of this one are almost exactly the same as np's. Get some originality, wouldja?
– Windows Activation Backup – Tired of having to reactivate Windows upon each reinstall? Well, as long as your hardware remains exactly the same upon reinstall, you won’t have to bother with all of that garbage.
And with that said, everyone should check out The New Pornographers. Fucking brilliant pop. See ya tomorrow.
From my hands, where I really need her
