Family Matters, Week of 9-18-05

And we?re back! </old_funny_SNL_bit> Another week, another family update. Here we go!

Annie

Annie has officially learned how to draw Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants and let me tell you I was most impressed. Ericka kickstarted this trend by showing her how to draw a sun. ?You put the eyes and the nose the mouth?and sunbeams all around!? Annie giggles with delight as she drew ?stick? eyes and a ?stick? nose, followed by sunbeams all around. What can I say, the mountain of child art has just begun, and it?s just amazing to see its inception.

The biggest surprise, however, was that Annie drew plankton all by herself. We didn?t actually explain to her that you draw his eye here, and put his hands and feet there?she just did it on her own. Sometime in the near future (perhaps for next week) I?ll post a scan of the pic. Partly for you and partly for the Proud Dad in me.

Abby

Life seems pretty normal for Abby, with her normal routine of finding things to crawl on, pulling things off shelves and destroying my DVD collection one disc at a time. While I don?t have the Supah Cute Anecdote from Abs this week, I would like to point out a very interesting phrase heard while watching TickleU the other day with the kids:

In comes Harry, who just turned off the second floor bathtub faucet to stop the overflow and, hence, leaking ceiling on the first floor. Note: in the show the kid has adventures with his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs

?I did it!? he shouts, ?I saved the day! I stopped the flood and saved the dinosaurs!?

This is the grandmother?s reply: ?Well, my my. Even Noah couldn?t do that.?

What can I say, it cracked me up. Who says there?s no cleverness left in kids shows?

Ericka (her blog)

Ah yes, my wife. Where to begin. I try to encompass her goodness on this blog but I usually fail. So I will simply say this: I love and appreciate this woman. Now we can move on.

Ericka has been back at it with the cake classes, and again with the long weekend at work. She has also begun an Origami project that is very cool. She hopes to fold a 1,000 cranes (according to legend) and while she may not reach 1,000 (as it really amounts to ?a lot? more than 1,000 as the perfect number), she has done a TON of them and they are all very impressive. She?s dropped hints to Annie about decorating her room with them. Annie is very excited about the prospect, but all kids get excited over imaginary fun situations. When the rubber hits the road, however, I think she?ll like it even more.

Etc

And here are your Quick Hits:

? Perception is Everything ? Colors look differently when surrounded by other colors. Check it out (warning: flash).

? How to Win at Carnival Games ? Somewhere a carney weeps when you read how to beat their silly games. So read it twice for me, k?

? Nintendo's New Controller ? Looks kinda ridiculous, and supposed to be physically used in games (ie, you swing the controller to swing the sword of the character, etc). We?ll see how it plays.

? Bart's Preinstalled Environment ? Ooooh, geeky. I can keep a preinstalled environment of Windows XP to use whenever I need to. Sounds sexy. Haven?t tried it yet, but there is help available.

? How We Got Engaged ? An illustrated mini-love story. Very cute and well done.

? Bill Gates Videos ? He?s the richest guy on the planet. Watch him screw up.

And that?s all folks. Busy, busy, talk to you tomorrow!

Don?t look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
