Family Matters, Week of 9-11-05
Ah, the Week of the Attacks is here, and the fam gets the spotlight. I?m still recovering from my earlier sickness, so this may be a bit shorter than expected. Fair Warning (coincidentally the title of the Best Van Halen Record of All Time)
Annie
Annie has dove head-first into TickleU, the Cartoon Network?s preschool kids show. This thing is two hours of programming, built on the premise of making toddlers and preschoolers laugh. It sounds weird ?You need to teach them jokes?? But yes, you actually do.
I mean, we gotta get our kids inundated with puns as early as possible. And knock-knock jokes. I don?t know which is funnier: The end result or the process. Allow me to demonstrate Annie?s latest attempt:
?Daddy, knock knock.?
?Who?s there??
?Orange.?
?Orange who??
Pause? ?I love you.?
Cut to me laughing for precisely the wrong reason. But no matter, it?s all cute, it?s all interesting, and from what I?ve seen, TickleU is the good stuff. Me and Ericka were always a little perplexed on why Annie never laughed much (if at all) during Spongebob Squarepants. Now I know. We never actually taught her what was funny!
Abby
Abby is safe in her comfortable padded B and D world. What I mean is, if a word or sound begins with any letter but B and D, she ?hums? it instead. Mmm-Mmm travels around the house quite a bit these days, usually until I can find an alternative B or D word for what I?m trying to get her to say.
?Juice. Say juice honey.?
?Mmm-Mmm.? She even nods her head for good measure.
?Yes, I know you want it, just say ?Juice? and I?ll give it to you.?
?Mmm-Mmm!? She may begin crying at this stage.
*Thinks fast* ?Uh, Drink! Say Dink-Dink!?
?Dink-dink,? she mutters, a tear on her cheek.
And so it goes. The closest we can get to any other letter is W, and ?wuh? sounds. We?ve officially finalized this exchange:
?Love you Abby.?
?Wuh yuh.?
That?s my girl.
Ericka (her blog)
Ericka is ass-deep in cake-baking classes, soon to be neck-deep in a few weeks. She?s currently residing in the Advanced Baking Class which informed her last night that the final class will consist of actually making a wedding cake (I don?t know why they don?t just call the damn class So You Wanna Make Wedding Cakes, it would be easier to understand), and it just so happens to end a week or so before my mother gets married. So there ya go, destiny at work.
Otherwise, she has been doing a stellar job at putting up with and taking care of my sickly self these past few days. This includes, but isn?t limited to, long undisturbed naps and breakfast in the bedroom area. You know they say the grass is always greener elsewhere, but if it was any greener in my section of the proverbial pasture it would turn neon.
Etc
Awww yeah, time for the Wednesday Quick Hits. Read and enjoy folks.
? notpr0n ? Simply the hardest riddle on the internet. Do NOT cheat, but I DO hope you have an absolute blast like I have. It takes some geek, but wow is it rewarding. I?ve been playing on-and-off for two days already, and I?m just on Level 8 (of 138!).
? The Cheatsheet Roundup ? From Javascript to Programming to .htaccess hacks, find those little fixes and scripts here. (Thanks Jim)
? Imagination Prompt Generator ? Wonderfully inspiring ideas and questions. The catalyst for yesterday's post.
? Unanchored ? Coops baby, it?s all about the Coops. Anderson Cooper is the man.
? How to Rip DVDs ? You need to know, don?tcha? We all do.
? PAXpose` ? If there is one geek show I would like to attend, it would be E3. But this may actually surpass it in the coming years.
? Advance Wars by Web ? Have you played Advance Wars? It?s a simple Turn-Based Strategy game that is simply amazing. Someone made a free javascript-ran version of it. Enjoy.
And?that?s another week in my life. Woot.
In the morning I fled, left a note and it read
Someday you will be loved
