Family Matters, Week of 8-7-05
Ah, it?s good to actually have time to delve into the wide world of family. No skimpin this week, it?s all meat and potatoes.
Annie
Annie has taken to a new saying. ?You made my tears come out!? She cries with childish abandonment, pointing to her cheeks extravagantly. ?You?re mean daddy, you made my tears come out!? And she just boo-hoos her way into whatever she wants. Of course she doesn?t get everything she wants, that?s why I?m the ?mean daddy.? I do mean pretty well I guess, because I hear it all the time?
Otherwise she stayed this weekend with my mother and had a grand ole time, though she is getting a little forceful with her demands. ?Get me some juice,? she instructs. I pause. ?Please,? she finishes. ?Okay then,? I say, and do what she asks. Politeness is tough to train and harder to practice sometimes.
Annie?s also gotten into the (terrible) habit of playing with Abby a little too forcibly. This usually culminates in Abby screaming and us finding Annie pulling her around by the arm or something. ?I?m a monster!? Annie yells as she jumps on Abby and we yell something incomprehensible as we pull her off. ?Abby doesn?t like to play like that!? We try to tell her. ?But?I?m a monster,? Annie says in a low voice, as if it was obvious to everyone but us.
Abby
Speaking of gigglebox, Abby is on a roll in terms of language. She has mastered some B-words such as ?Ba-ba, Ball, and ?B?, her code for Blanket.? She has also gotten very good at the Bye-Byes, Hi/Hey, and head shaking when appropriate. I don?t know how much she understands, but it feels like an awful lot. She is very astute on getting me what I ask for or doing what I ask of her. Of course, sometimes she disobeys but its always with that cute twinkle of mischeviousness (read: She knows I?m not going to get mad for breaking certain ?rules? like don?t go in mommy and daddy?s room).
She?s also been really terrible at going to sleep here lately. She?ll stand up, cry, yell, and do whatever it takes to get Annie asking why she?s in there and why she can?t go to sleep. So the ritual begins again with us laying her down and covering her up, and eventually she figures out that there?s no exit but the one to Dreamland. But some days its an awful long trip to that destination.
Ericka (her blog)
Ericka has been doing very well these past few weeks, at least a marked improvement from her sickness that had her down the past week or so. She plans on starting some Advanced Cake Decorating classes in a few weeks where she?ll learn how to do wedding cakes and whatnot. Very exciting stuff. She?s got a few projects lined up, birthday parties and whatnot, but I think the advanced stuff will really kickstart it.
Otherwise she is as selfless as one can possibly be, just yesterday letting her worthless husband take a two hour nap without a peep of argument or whining. That?s what I call a true American hero. At least in my book.
Etc
Mmmm?the good stuff:
