Busblog Gets It Right

Do you read Tony Pierce? The guy is the blogger every blogger should be looking up to. Why? No compromises. What did I do this past week? I compromised. I posted something that was true to myself but I removed it in an effort to make myself “appear” better.

If anyone still has this past Tuesday’s post in their feed reader(s) (I don’t), please email it to me. I’ll re-post it.

One of the most important things you can be as a blogger is honest. If there is a blog created every second (hyperbole at its very finest, folks), then a lot of liars have a lot of time on their hands. And I’m not talking about the poor abused souls who wander Livejournal (with a few notable exceptions), I’m talking about people who try to maintain their reputations no matter what.

If you’re so focused on making yourself looking perfect, you can’t be focused enough to tell the truth. And truth is by its very nature imperfect. It is raw and unscripted (not unlike TLC, except truth is actually interesting). And, frankly, I screwed up. I said a few words about imaginary users and my thoughts on them. Anyone reading it could tell I wasn’t speaking about users I currently manage, and I said at the beginning of that post it was a tongue-in-cheek article. So what happened?

I got scared. Quite frankly, anything regarding my job nowadays I’m ridiculously skittish about. My previous employer dropped a bomb on me, and since then I’ve been in a shelter, hand hovering over the Big Red Button In Case Of Danger. I want to know when I’m in danger, and I want to be prepared. I try to inquire my coworkers as much as possible that I’m doing a good job. That I’m doing what I’m paid to do. That there isn’t a conspiracy in the shadows.

Blogging is a dangerous activity, all things considered. You’re putting yourself out there for your friends and loved ones, and some tact is necessary. Now there’s a big difference between cursing out your boss on your blog and posting about issues dealing with your job. Duh, right? Well, sometimes people forget and they suffer because of it. Sad but true.

Anyway, as of right now, much like Scoble, I’ll be keeping each and every post I make on here. If I believed it when I wrote it, it shall stay. If it is wrong I’ll post again explaining why, but I won’t simply remove the post in some sort of pseudo-protest. My promise to you, dear reader.

Now I gotta finish up and get the hell out of here. It’s Friday ain’t it?

Lonely
And the only way to beat it is to bat it down
