Musical Interludes

It?s been about two weeks since I featured any new, interesting music choices, so allow me to share some:

? Tori Amos - The Beekeeper ? Sucks. Yes, I am a huge Tori fan, and I have purchased every album of hers up to 2002?s Scarlet's Walk (which was also bad, but not terrible like this one). The problem seems to be that she has forgotten that her core audience expects and dare-I-say enjoys listening to wonderfully crafted melodies and not a hodge podge of differing styles and influences. So I sigh, toss the record, and seek the safety and comfort of Under the Pink, by far her most powerful release. Baker, Baker alone garners classic status. Not to mention ?God? and ?Cornflake Girl?. Please, leave the melding to Fiona Apple. Speaking of?

? Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine ? An excellent record. Why no link to Amazon? Because you can?t find it there. Sony simply won?t release the record commercially. It?s a shame, really, because there are some great cuts on this one. The ?old school? feel of the title track is just incredible and I also learned I was listening to the tracks in the wrong order, so thanks to FA.org for setting me straight. Shame the title track is so late in the listing, I had it 2nd and really enjoyed how it impacted the rest of the songs. Dig a little and see what you can find.

? The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan ? Yeah baby, that?s what I?m talking about! Finally, a record that digs a little deeper. While I was certainly (and remain, to be honest) enthused with Coldplay?s X&Y record, this is some good stuff right here. The best part is that it begs to provide more enjoyment on future listens, and considering I just picked it up today, I can?t wait for that to happen. Jack White is never a bad choice when looking for some music to enjoy.

? Daft Punk - Human After All ? Awesome little techno record. They actually try to keep you interested and bouncing your head/feet to the beat, and that?s something that a lot of ?new age? DJs forget (I?m talking to you Moby). The title track is fantastic, but it is Robot Rock where the record shines. Get, bounce, and enjoy.

And now I bring you The Random Crap To Round Out The Week:

? Movie I can?t wait to see: High Tension
? Movie I can?t wait to see while chomping popcorn then forget before I reach my car: Mr and Mrs Smith
? Latest blog subscribed to: Moxie Blossom (No relation to Moxie Cinema)
? Check out the new Technorati Beta Site
? Big thanks to milezero.org for the link.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. See ya on Monday.

Couldn't agree more about Tori Amos. I do like Fiona Apple's new one quite a bit. Other artists who have come out with stuff that have been mildly disappointed this year include Garbage, NIN and even Beck. Too bad - I was really looking forward to these releases.

I've posted some of my pics on my blog at www.spokeydokey.blogspot.com
