Family Matters, Week of 6-26-05

Ah, another week of fam goodness. Sometimes you just know these moments won?t last?

Annie

Annie returns to top billing with her ability to potty train. I?ll admit, we?ve tried the touchy-feely route (note to all parents: Those routes never work) and, finding it unimpressive, were forced to threaten a spankin unless she uses the potty. We?ve never had to come through on this promise (okay, that one time), but I think the real deterrent was found today.

Ericka was explaining how wearing panties was a ?big girl? thing. But Annie just didn?t seem to get it. Insert Marissa, my niece who is staying for a few days, who then says?

?I wear panties.?

Annie?s eyes got wide. ?You do??

?Yeah,? Marissa says, and then Ericka responds, ?I do too.? I wasn?t there for this exchange, but I?m guessing at this point everyone showed off their underwear.

?What does Abby wear?? Annie asks.

?Abby wears diapers because she?s a baby,? Ericka says. ?But when she gets to be a big girl, you can help her use the potty too.?

This just made Annie?s day and a series of hooping, laughing, and squealing proceeded it.

Annie has went to the potty 5 times today, hasn?t wet her panties at all, and looks to be on the road to diaperlessness.

We can only hope.

Abby

Abby, on the other hand, has been a little sick here lately. Not enough to get her down, but enough to require a little bit of Benedryl and an extra nap for the past few days. We?ve done all we can for her sniffles, and she seems to be getting a little better each day. Summer colds are pretty rough, so I hope it doesn?t get any worse.

She also has warmed up to me even further, exclaiming ?Da! Da! Da!? when I come home, and then provides an appropriate welcome home hug. That?s always a good feeling.

Ericka (her blog)

Ericka?s gotten plenty of nice comments over at her site on her cake making, and I?m currently hard at work trying to design a business card for her. The business name we chose is really cool, I think, in that it incorporates our children?s names without being corny.

How does Ab and Anne?s Delicious Treats sound? Just say ?Ab and Anne?s? a few times. Feels good, don?t it? I just love how it rolls off the tongue. We?re not 100% finalized on the name, but I think Ab and Anne?s is going to stick. It?s the following ?Cute End Phrase? that may need tweaking. Any suggestions?

Of course now comes the part where we try to incorporate her cakes and treats site with her blog, hopefully not trading one for another, and hoping that one can drive the other. If she?ll update with a bit more regularity, that is. (hint?hint)

There?s also the issue of even offering internet order cakes and if its worth trying to go that route. I?m guessing not, just by a cake?s volatile nature (ie, won?t survive shipping) and inherent freshness. Of course, a properly packaged cheesecake can last quite a few days in shipping, so we?ll see.

Etc

Ah, the random stuff. This is fun.

? Watch the monsterous (and expensive, $300, damn!) Lego Star Destroyer put together in stop-motion capture video. Fascinating stuff.

? Wal-Mart sucks. These guys prove it.

How about "Ab & Anne's Sweet Treats" or "Ab & Anne's Confectionary"?

Meh, I may suck at business names, but the "Ab & Anne's" part IS cute. :)
