Family Matters, Week of 6-19-05

Another week, another fam?er, you know what I mean.

A note on yesterday?s post: Just to completely clarify (my wife was a little confused on my stance): I of course do not advocate children getting hurt via paddling. What I?m saying is that teachers who do that terrible thing should be punished, but don?t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Paddling a kindergartener is a little much, but there are plenty of older kids who it would benefit from the discipline.

With that said, let?s dive in:

Abby

As promised, gigglebox gets top billing this week. So what has she been up to? Well, climbing for the most part.

Abby has a lot of the ?mysterious bruise? syndrome because she just loves to climb on things, and with a one year old climbing is usually synonymous with falling. She got up onto her parents' bed long before Annie ever dreamed at that age (at least not without a lot of help), and she does so by climbing the frame at the foot of the bed and pushing herself on top of the mattress. It?s a scary thing to see, and I don?t know how that munchkin does it.

She does, however, love to visit and hang out with dad, especially at the computer (I?ll find her sitting at my desk if I leave the bedroom door open) and making a mess there. Not to mention randomly smashing the keyboard to produce characters in Microsoft Word.

I think we may have another blogger on our hands. Stay tuned for intriguing posts filled with ?$^AasdfsajkjaKJTU*$N(*$UJNILTH89? very soon now.

Annie

Annie is as wonderful as ever, and has adapted her normal ?I love you dad? to ?I just love you so much,? which is, of course, inexplicably cuter and makes her tantrums seem all the more odd in comparison.

After having the canopy on her bed removed due to child-driven demolition, we?ve put it back up and it?s stayed that way?so far. We?ll see if she has any plans to remove the rest of the little ladybugs Ericka glued on it, as Annie has just about scoured them all off there.

I?d also like to say that she?s taken up Serious Potty Training, but alas, no. She?ll use it if we ask her, and occassionally she?ll request a trip to the toilet, but by en large? No dice. That sucks.

Ericka (her blog)

Okay, if you want to know what amazing creations are possible from my significant other, here?s some proof:

Bugcake

That was the cake that Ericka made for Annie?s birthday, which was quickly devoured by the guests. I hope you dig it as much as I did.

For more photos, check out this post on her blog. After multiple suggestions, she has been updating with greater frequency. I think her RSS feed could live safely in your aggregator (need one? Use this one), and I suggest you subscribe as quickly as possible.

Etc

Here come the random hits:

? I?ve just not been able to squeeze in?: How I still feel terrible not inviting my best bud Jeremy along to see Episode III or Batman Begins last week. I learned of the latter showing, literally, 20 minutes before it began, so there was no time. Sigh. Okay, I feel better now. For Jeremy: Be prepared for the Fantastic Four!

? The item that made me happiest in the past 7 days: The upcoming Family Guy Movie! If you?re looking for a birthday present for me (Sept. 24th), there ya go.

? Close call: Trent nearly lost it all.

? Have you been reading?: Outpost-1? Jim has had some very excellent posts as of late.

? When StatCounter made me, a paying customer, click through an ad after signing on this morning, they lost any future business from me.
