The Emperor Has No Clothes

Allow me to quote someone: "Vacation Bible School is lame."

Who said that? It wasn't me, even though those who have read this blog for any amount of time know I have a staunch defiance of all things religious. It wasn't another liberal blogger, it wasn't a christian-hater.

Nope, it was a pastor of a church, and one that has utterly impressed me in every post of his I've devoured.

Gary Lamb is the pastor at Ridge Stone Church and I found his blog today via Terry Storch. Both of these guys live in my "Must Read" Onfolio folder, the former added just today.

The most important thing about a blog is to be honest. To give your take on the world. And boy, does Gary know how to do that. He is so excited, passionate, informative, and (most of all) honest in his approach, I can't help but be enamored with his writing and his church. Hell, I want to visit just to shake his hand and see his deeds in action!

It's ironic that just yesterday my guest post about reading Other Voices went up on Brian's site and here I am already discovering great new voices thanks to practicing what I preach (ha!). As a liberal atheist, what am I doing reading Terry Storch? He's a remarkable guy who keeps me reading. From his different point of view I am kept abreast of the things he finds interesting and I get to try those recommendations on for size.

Allow me to point you to a few great posts from Gary:

- Fund Raising Thoughts

- Church and Nascar

The idea of Church "planting" is something he speaks about quite a bit. I've not scoured his archives just yet (and thankfully he has only 3 months worth!), but the analogy is pretty clear. This man can plant a seed and watch it grow. He can lose staff and rebound, speak about leadership and show through example how it works.

This guy is a peer and I'm not so obtuse to deny that. I hope you may open your eyes to his writings as well.

Final Thoughts...

As a final thought this week, and sharp contrast to the refreshing blogs spoken of today, me and Ericka have decided that I Love Bernice is probably fake. Firstly, if this woman is as old as she claims (103?!), and she speaks of her father the mad drunkard, still alive, then alarm bells ring. Not to mention her cohesiveness and taut writing skills at that age.

Are the stories fascinating? Sure. But so is good fiction. I mean, c'mon, the cottage cheese story is just gross but entertaining, again, like good fiction. Old photos do not impress me. She (or he) are essentially anonymous and have no proof of their existence, no real names. That is fine for what it is (you'll notice a lot of the "true sex blogs" are just well crafted fiction once you look at them from this angle), but do be aware you're probably being strung along by someone getting great pleasure and writing practice from the effort.

If Bernice is real, I'd love to see the proof. Until then, I call bullshit.

My wonderful employer has given me Friday and Monday off for the holiday weekend, so I'll speak to you again on Tuesday. Take care.

Thanks for the plug dude. It is a small world. I was checking you out yesterday from Brian's blog and here today I'm getting a plug. Very cool.
