Annie Matters, Week of 6-6-05

Hello everybody, it?s good to be back. Today is normally my Family Matters weekly post where I drone and give the most intimate details or cute moments or dirty diapers that happen to float around the Erwin household. However, today is my daughter Annie?s birthday! Yay!

Katie Annabelle Lee Erwin was born at 12:40AM on June 8th, 2002. Her beautiful and wonderful mother Ericka Erwin suffered mightily to bring her into this world (See the June 10th post that I?m about to steal from for the exact, painful details), and did so with grace.

I find myself a little fascinated with names recently (as if you couldn't tell), so here was my explanation, and decision process, on how Annie got her name, written two days after she was born:

Her name originated in many various ways. If there's one thing I'm happy about, it's the fact that we had plenty of girl names to choose from. You see, when you don't have a wide selection, the process becomes a pick-and-choose game that really is quite difficult. With boys, we were nearly out of choices. Everything sounded weird, dull, or normal. Don't need any Johns or Dans or Richards or Scotts around here. Got a few too many of them already. We wanted something different but not something as "definable" like Jump. (Yes, these people exist.)

So for boys we're pretty much settled on Evan Aidan Erwin. We'd call him Aidan and he'd use his middle name like his dad :) We also bounced around the name Griffon (Gryphon, Griphin, etc), but just couldn't come up with anything.

But for girls it was fun. There was Autumn, Willow, Molly, Kate, Cadi, and Annabelle. Then we had the mothers' names, the grandmothers' names, etc. We finally decided on Katie, for Ericka's Grandmother. She lives in Mississippi and if Annie can endure the ride, we'll take her to see her "Ninny" (yes, they all are named different, aren't grandma's? We have "Memaw", "Nanna", "Nay-nah (alternate pronounciation can seperate two human beings who are both in grandmother status)", etc, on July 4th weekend. It's been awhile since we last visited, but let's just assure that at that time, we weren't expecting a baby :) Annabelle we loved from the first moment we saw it in the baby book, and Lee for my Grandma and dad.

So that?s my ode to my beautiful girl on her special day. Well, of course, her real special day is coming this Saturday when her party erupts in the pool house at our apartment complex. There should be plenty of food, fun, and sur?er, pool for everybody. Jim and fam have promised an appearance, as well as sisters, fathers, and more friends. I promise to take as many digital photos as possible, so I can have a very cool phlog, as they?re called, put up in my Picture Gallery.

As for Abby she?s doing great and Ericka has some new stuff to say on her blog. I would write more about them but, like I said, today is Annie?s Day here at misterorange.com.

I?d write some cool Etc stuff right now (like how I got Josh to create an RSS Feed for his funny comic Punks and Nerds), but I can?t. Perhaps tomorrow will bring more interesting and random stuff.

It?s a strange condition
