Dan Gilmore's Citizen Media...

Currently I'm sitting in Dan Gilmore's Citizen Media session, where we've thoroughly discussed my Herb Newton Nissan issue. We had a lot of great discussions about what is and is not acceptable, and most said I'm just waiting to get sued (woohoo, where's my lawyer?).

Others, however, were more supportive and said that even though I could get sued (anyone can be sued these days) but that I should try to open a dialogue with Herb Newton Nissan and ask them for their side of the story, how the things I complained about could be fixed, and any comments they have regarding that.

So on Monday I will do so. I'll send Herb Newton Nissan an email, to the same address that sent me the threats to remove my critical post, asking them for their side of the story. If they get back to me, I'll be sure to post it here for everyone to see.

But for now, back to the discussions!

I was the lawyer across the room at the Citizens Media discussion who made the point about anyone getting sued in America today ("warnings on Coke machines not to tip over on self while stealing" being one example I used). And I was the one who suggested you might reduce the possibility of a lawsuit by being proactive in contacting them to see if they might want to tell their side or address the issues you raise. After all, at worst, you get more material to blog on.

I'm here in Knoxville and curious if area bloggers think it would be useful to have a local blog conference on a smaller, local basis. If you have any thoughts, you can reach me at
