Weekend Awaits

Woohoo, here comes the last post of the week!

I know, you?re just so damn excited.

First up: Thanks to my bud Jeremy for including me on his bi-weekly Dungeons & Dragons game. Apparently one of the guys (John) is moving away thanks to his woman going for her Masters (Congrats!) and there is now a spot open. Having never actually seen the game before, it was very interesting to watch the game in action.

For one, the roleplaying isn?t quite as jarring as one would think. Now I do believe it takes an awesome DM (that?s Dungeon Master to non-geeks out there) to make it ?come alive?, but in the scheme of things I thought it was interesting. Particularly in the way that the mechanics of the game are setup, all through die rolls, and how the DM gets to keep things and reveal things based on how the players interact.

Now, that isn?t to say that there isn?t room for improvisation, but the DM only has so many responses to a certain situation, and you must fall into one of them. This is limiting and liberating, and makes for interesting gameplay.

However, what I noticed above anything else is that it takes a long fucking time to play a game. In over 3 hours, I saw one skirmish and then an hour of finding/getting loot, finding something to carry said loot, selling the loot, then divvying it up. All I could think was: ?Holy shit, these people need a laptop!? I?m sure I?m pissing off some traditionalist fanboys, but christ, you can?t really expect me to write down all that shit, do you? Yes? Oh, well, okay then. It?s like my friend Chris said, ?Half of the fun is dividing up the loot.? Fair enough.

In other comedic news, I?m going to go see Ralphie May this evening (warning, Flash-only :( ). He is absolutely hilarious and I can?t wait to see what he has in store. Unfortunately the tickets cost $40 and that hurts the ole Family Budget. I?m currently into the terrible trend of selling my precious DVD collection to pay for my wants.

Speaking of expensive shit I like to do, tomorrow is the Grand Prix Qualifier in Knoxville. Considering I made Top 4 at the last Pro Tour Qualifier, and won 2 boxes as which had this same format (sealed deck), I?ll be there with bells on.

Lastly, before I go, here is a great TV blog: TV Squad. Read, learn, and enjoy. See ya next week.

Sometimes you gotta be an S.O.B
you wanna make a dream reality

Talk about crazy D&D game, this game was been running for over a decade!

And the characters aren't even epic level yet. O_o

It's definitely the best game I've ever seen or read about..their DM is just amazing. he generally wins ENworld's "Iron DM" Contests hands down..
