Gettin' Political
Remember when I said I was reading up on TN bloggers? Well, check out this excellent post via South Knox Bubba. Just some jaw-dropping info being spieled there.
This is regarding Blount County State Senator Raymond Finney who could just be out of his ever-lovin? mind. Of course, he?s also a Republican, And All That That Implies. Mainly lots of Jesus and Gay Hate. You know the drill.
Here are two bills proposed in the State Senate from Mr. Finney:
?Senate Bill 1519 would allow county court clerks to collect a $2 fee for filing legal documents "in counties having a population of not less than 105,800 and not more than 105,900" as of the 2000 U.S. Census. (The population of Blount County is 105,823 according to the 2000 U.S. Census).?
First up, that population requirement is funny as hell. Just so he can say it ?wasn?t applied to Blount County? come re-election time. Next up: Yeah, its not a tax, it?s a fee. It?s not sex, it?s fellatio. C?mon everybody! You can do it too! It wasn?t stealing, it?s Extended Borrowing. It?s not murder, its Bullet Displacement.
Let?s hit the best one:
?Senate Bill 1117 which makes it illegal for Tennessee college professors to infringe on the rights of students by "creating a hostile environment toward their political or religious beliefs or introducing controversial matter into the classroom..."
Wow, thanks Mr. Finney. It?s a good thing you?re looking out for the interests of Common Folk. Sometimes you find out things about your political leaders that dumbfound you (the idiocy of Mr. Bush, etc etc). Other times it hits outrage. This is very close. I?m a big proponent of privacy, human rights, and I?m liberal as all get out. So to say that professors suddenly can?t introduce quote, unquote ?controversial matter? (let?s say, evolution? you know, whatever pisses off the bible-thumpers) is beyond ridiculous.
Do I want professors to be able to create a hostile environment toward someone?s political or religious beliefs? Of course not. But to add that on the end as if it fits right in the mold?
This is sad. These are our representatives. I hope the voting public are happy with their choices.
We?re not going to hell in a handbasket, we?re going towards some sort of pseudo?religious oligarchy, full of mind-numbing mediocrity complete with Christian Anti-Gay Value Learning Centers (ie, schools) with Advanced Learning Materials (ie, Bibles) ready for each and every student.
Oh, and the Muslims, Jews, and Atheists? Yeah, fuck them. Welcome to the future, c/o your local leaders.
I drag you down I use you up
Mr. Self Destruct
