3 Years and Counting

Today marks me and my wife’s 3rd anniversary (her blog). Over the past three years we’ve been through two different living situations, three different jobs, three cars…over time all of this experience adds up.

But to what? What does all of this experience with one another, the day-in-day-out toils and troubles amount to? Well, mainly, the idea that love (or rather, Love, as it deserves capitalization) is something that is beyond the idea of lust. Now lust is a good thing, and I believe that. The ability to keep lust in a relationship, well, that’s damn important (as most will agree).

However, I’m speaking of totals. The sum. The end product. Marriage creates a bond, a common one, that holds strong no matter what happens. They call it a ball and chain, but I believe they do so for a reason: You want to be grounded and connected, and sometimes that isn’t a bad thing. Ericka lets me indulge in my whims, but she’s not going to let me do something Stupid(tm). She is definitely the level-headed one of the family, and for that I thank her.

In the end I think it is the happiness that another can bring you which determines marital bliss. The ability to communicate and get along. To help when the other needs it, to relent when they ask for space. To listen, and be listened to.

Really, this is just a love letter to my wife. I won’t try to mask it by being Deep and Philosophical. Sometimes its nice to just sit back and thank the ones you love, particularly the spousal kind, and appreciate.

Thank you Ericka, for showing me that there is more to life than entertainment, or rather, that life is more entertaining than I once thought.

Thank you Ericka, for giving me the two most amazing kids.

Thank you Ericka, for staying strong during last year’s Dark Period and helping me move on.

Thank you Ericka, for everything. You are the best. I can’t wait for three or thirty more years of marriage.

Still in peaceful dreams I see
the road leads back to you.
