Television is Everywhere

I struggle to ascern exactly why it is that people want to experience television at each turn of their lives. Mainly this is in service industries, anything from Mechanic shops to Dentist offices (which, surprisingly, are very similar jobs).

My recent experience has been with the gym. In this gym they have treadmills, elliptical oscillators (the skiing machine), and stairmasters...all complete with 14" LCD screens and all equipped with 60+ channel cable for your viewing pleasure.

You ready to fawn over Ty from Extreme Home Makeover? You want some of that sweet Food Network filled with things you can't eat? That time has arrived!

Now, in a workout environment, I can understand giving some lip service the idea that if you're engaged in a television program, you're more likely to stick around and work out more. I mean, it's no wonder most mass exodus from said machines happen at half past or on the hour. However, it is a little creepy you just can't get away from Trading Spaces or god forbid Wheel of Fortune (the latter a fate worse than death itself).

Were it not for my iPod Shuffle, I just might die from the pure Americanism flowing through the place. Of course, my iPod in itself is "Americanism" (which is to say commercialized and sold to the highest bidder), but did I mention it was sexy? Yeah, that's my out and I'm sticking to it.

Nevertheless, my bud Tony lamented recently about the availability of such screens on his Dentist chair, and while that sounds cool, it also sounds like they sold their patients to the company with the deepest pockets. DentistTV...brought to you by Crest.

Ah, boredom and commercialism. Such huge problems, such few answers. What can I say, I'm fascinated.

To wrap up this post, allow me to show you the saddest story I've seen posted in weeks. Feel free to see Parker Lewis Fall From Grace (Jesus Christ...Mansquito? What are you, the new and improved Latin man-whore?), or enjoy this unpublished comic which was so funny I'm posting it here for your pleasure (and keeping a local copy so it doesn't disappear):
