On St. Patty's Day

Ah yes, that one day of the year where people do that really ridiculous pinching thing. Luckily I have none of that around here in the workplace, so between me and you I’d like to keep it that way.

Oh yeah, speaking of I promised some specs on my new work machine. Here they is:

– Dual 2.8 Xeon P4’s (hyperthreaded so it appears as if I have 4 proc’s)
– 2GB o’ RAM
– Dual 17” screens powered by an ATI FireGL
– Soundblaster Audigy 2
– 16X DVD -/+ RW burner
– 48X CD Burner
– 250GB HD

Yes my friends, it pimps. How hard it pimps must be experienced. Of course, Jeremy owns all in terms of God machines (as his budget is akin to a blank check), but for the cash I think this box is definitely worth it and will last me a good 2–3 years, then resign itself to more menial (probably server) tasks.

Speaking of, I’ve been warming up to OSX Server. The thing looks brilliant (as does all OSX stuff), and hopefully administrates even easier. Applescript or whatever they call it (the OSX scripting system) is intriguing and I hope to manipulate it to my needs. VNC has been as wonderful as ever, but to do things like map drives automatically, you’d be surprised by the little things that OSX doesn’t do, or even offer to do.

There’s also Official Apple Training, but I’m not about to go ask for a $1,499 course where I probably know most of the stuff, and to get to a course where I might learn something I’ll need the prerequisites of the courses I probably don’t need.

Of course, being self taught comes with a bit of ego in terms of learning and understanding subjects, so who knows if I do or do not need to skip the Intro To Mac OSX Help Deskin’, either way I’m not asking. I might bring it up casually, but not for a Serious Meeting point.

Ooooh, check this out. I have two laptops sitting around gathering dust, and probably will continue to do so for weeks/months to come. Free extra monitors? Sweet! I may just fire that up and work with it later this week.

Anyway, time to work on some stuff. Take care!
