Noir Cool

Oh man, I am officially geeking out. Tomorrow heralds the arrival of Sin City, and if you haven’t seen anything on it, well, what’s wrong with you? Seriously, if you see one flick this Spring, make it Mr. Miller and Mr. Rodriguez’s awesome frame-by-frame adaptation of this amazing comic.

I bought Sin City, the graphic novel, many many years ago. This was around I’d say 1997 or before. Then I saw The Big Fat Kill in comic form, but I don’t prefer that method. I hate being strung along, and that’s what comics are best at (and soap operas…and TV dramas…) so I waited for the graphic novel port of that one too.

It just occurs to me that 1) I have no idea where those graphic novels are and 2) my friend Jeremy asked me to borrow them months ago (sorry bro).

Anyway, Frank Miller’s brilliant and raw storyline had me intrigued for weeks as I read the story over and over. Of the four stories in the movie (Sin City, That Yellow Bastard, The Big Fat Kill and The Babe Wore Red), I’ve only read the original Sin City and The Big Fat Kill. It’s awesome to see Clive Owen just own the character of Dwight, and Mickey Rourke as Marv…oh man, you couldn’t cast it better! Note: Having Marv, the lead character about 10–spaces below the other characters because Rourke isn’t as big a star as, say, Clive Owen, in Sin City’s IMDB listing is a crime of the highest order.

Check out this comic-to-screen comparison. Just brilliant and I recognize every picture from both Sin City and The Big Fat Kill sections. Too cool.

I’ve ranted on this before (over 3 months ago! wowza), so I’ll save the fanboy splurge. Just go see it and let’s appreciate the fine work being put out by Troublemaker Studios.

Something to note: Yesterday’s photos were added to the misterorange.com Picture Gallery. Just FYI.

On the other side of the coin, I’ve been interested in getting more into the “Blogging Community” so I’ve spent some time finding (and subscribing) to local Tennesseeans and their feeds. Of course, I’ve been a Brittney reader for months now, but I also found Chris Woodhul, a Knoxville City Councilman, Bob Stepno, Bill Hobbs (who is running the upcoming BlogNashville conference I plan on attending), Alice in TN, and South End Grounds. It’s very cool and encouraging to see so many local faces making their voices heard.

Oh, and of course like everyone else on the planet I have to mention that Terry Schiavo died. Did you know it only takes 13 days to die without food in that condition? Am I the only one who said, after my wife told me the news this morning, “Finally?”

Sigh. In such a civilized country we can’t have a civil death if that is our fate. Painkillers, injections? No, we must suffer greatly, even if we don’t realize it due to brain damage. What a world.

Best quote: “I don't know if anything can stop this evil," said Mary Ann McGuire of Scranton, Pennsylvania, who sat weeping with her 16-month-old son on her lap and said she feared Schiavo's death would open the way for widespread euthanasia. "This can only get worse."

Yes, lock up your young’uns! The killin’s about to commence!

Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better
