Family Matters, Week of 3-18-05
Hello again strangers and strangees, I speak today of my family, as I do each Friday.
Annie
Annie has this very interesting little habit. You see, everytime Ericka finds an eyelash on her cheek, she’ll pull it off and hold it in front of Annie.
“Blow and make a wish,” she says, as the old belief goes.
So Annie will do so and then Ericka asks, “What did you wish for?”
“Hair.”
“Hair for who?”
“Daddy.”
Boy, I feel bald. Of course, it was also self-inflicted (I used clippers to rid myself of it), as the ole Male Pattern is coming faster every day, and I’d rather embrace than try and race around my head with combovers and awkward shiny spots.
But hey, it is nice to be thought of by your daughter.
Abby
Abby is teething, as she has been for a few weeks now, her drool nonstop and always surprisingly cold. Another good thing is that she’s finally warming up to me. I know that sounds weird, I mean, the kid’s a year old now, but it has been a very interesting experience having two daughters both so small. I’m so used to having Annie around and playing, reading, and interacting with her, that Abby is just enough behind the curve that trying to engage both of them at the same time is almost impossible.
I mean, sure they like to play and run around, but Annie understands things much better (of course), and Abby was mobile so early in life that she is hard to pin down and read to/play with, etc.
This brings up an interesting situation where I can look back and see how immobile Annie was (she didn’t crawl until 12 months, didn’t walk until 14 mo.) and then see how that relates to things she likes so much now. In particular, books. Abby doesn’t much care for them, but Annie loves them. This is in part, I believe, because Annie was more or less “stuck” being read to instead of getting up and running away. So she loved them by some sort of literary osmosis, not because she was naturally drawn to them (though that’s still a possibility, etc).
Anyway, long story short I’m glad Abby is happy to see me when I come home, is slowly learning how to give kisses and hugs and all of that great kid stuff, and maybe one day will begin to love books…if she’ll stay still long enough to let me read one to her.
Ericka (Her blog)
Ericka is as Ericka does, meaning being amazing to me, the kids, and taking care of household duties. She also just sold another cake, a simple little creation that came out to perfection.
While thankfully she now has a blog to detail her thoughts and ideas, at least I get to represent my side of the story which is to be gracious and appreciative as much as possible.
Till next week folks, take care of yourselves.

1 Comments:
Evan, she deserves a wedding. You know she does... and if you truly think she is as fantastic and amazing as you always say you will find a way to make it happen.
1) buy a ring
2) propose
3) set a date...
the money will come... I promise
