About Asking Questions
There is a fantastic story on John Gillmore, the rich geek who began the EFF. I envy him not only for his immense cash flow (it is impressive), but for his blatant lack of authority.
What makes this all the more scary is that I'm of course flying back on a plane, and that if I refused to produce ID I would be denied that flight yet I would also be denied the right to see the law which prohibits me from boarding that flight.
For even more wackiness, if I forgot my ID, was sincere and knew all of the required information, I would probably get on the plane.
This conundrum of privacy and security is odd to say the least.
The argument has been, as the (great) article states (really, you should go read it now) that privary is a war of two worlds: What Do You Have To Hide vs. It's None Of Your Business.
If you didn't know, I'm a pretty freaky liberal. I believe in pretty much everything located in the free online book, Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do. While some of it is pretty far out there, most of it is right on track. What's wrong with a woman selling sex if she's so inclined? What's wrong with a guy using drugs (and yes, alcohol is a drug) in the privacy of his own home? This also adheres to sex acts and the like.
Hell, I'll break it down to seat belts. Why do you wear them? Because the law says to? Guess who implimented that law? Insurance companies.
If a grown man or woman, of his or her own volition, wishes to not wear a seat belt and take the risks involved, then why shouldn't they have that right? In my mind it's very simple. But being a liberal, there are so many gray areas.
Anyway, on a different note, Aaron Schwartz has a very interesting blog, who after reading a few blog posts (read this one first), immediately subscribed to his feed. Some very interesting stuff. A bit wordy, but very interesting (kinda like me? Well, at least the wordy part).
Now I sit waiting for lunch to end and class to begin once again. Unfortunately I'm a little over my head at this point, surrounded by plant managers and planners, in charge of million dollar operations. Me, I just miss my family.
